The words “Root Canal,” send most patients bolting for the door, but to be fair, root canals have gotten a bad reputation in large part due to misunderstanding. Root canal infection occurs when tooth decay causing bacteria reach the inner, pulp, layer of teeth. Root canal treatments are procedures that involve the pulp of the tooth, and the dental specialty, endodontics, was created to provide these necessary treatments. The procedure traditionally referred to as a “root canal” consists of the removal of infected pulp, refilling of the tooth with biocompatible material, and the placement of a dental crown to provide additional stability and protection to the treated tooth. This blog provides facts regarding some of the common misconceptions about root canal infection and treatments.

A lot of things stick out to me from my childhood — and one thing is the time I learned that age old lesson: never do anything halfway. I won’t go into the details, but it’s a lesson that I’ve carried with me throughout my life, and something I remind myself of a lot in dentistry — especially when it comes to missing teeth. Did you know that in tooth replacement, there’s only one option that truly acts as a replacement for the whole tooth, rather than just the part you see? If you’ve got missing teeth, they need to be replaced — and if you don’t want to just do it halfway, you need to choose dental implants in Islip.

There’s a problem no one’s talking about, even though it kills one person every hour. That means that by the time you eat lunch, it will have killed more than seven people since you woke up. And only slightly half of those who have it will live more than five years. It’s more deadly than cervical cancer, Hodgkin’s lymphoma and testicular cancer–cancers we hear about far more often.

Before you send your children back to school, you probably make sure they have all the right school supplies, clothes, and shoes. You may even schedule an appointment with your child’s pediatrician to make sure they’re healthy before they start a new year, but did you ever consider scheduling a dental checkup before the school year starts? Some schools in the area require dental check-ups at various grade levels. East Islip Dental Care encourages you to schedule a back to school dental checkup and cleaning for your child today. Contact our friendly staff to request an appointment, or find out more about our dental care services today.

Do you know what puts a damper on a beautiful smile? Missing teeth. Would you happen to know what kills a person’s confidence? Missing teeth. There should never be a reason why you wouldn’t want to show off your smile. Heck, you burn calories just smiling for crying out loud. Your smile is your personality and everything that you throw out there. Smiling can be just as contagious as laughing, if not more. If you’re missing teeth, there’s no need to fret. The dental industry has come a very long way in providing comfortable (and affordable) treatment for people who have suffered from missing teeth. At the office of Dr. Gary Rosenfeld, we know a thing or two about dental bridges, and the welcomed treatment they can provide patients. If you’re in the East Islip, NY and surrounding areas and want to rid yourself of the embarassment of missing teeth, then consider a dental bridge.
